** We Want Student Online Reviews **

Each month, our principal Terri presents a copy of the selected monthly book to each class at Alice Carlson along with a letter that she has written that makes a personal connection to the book she has chosen.  The books chosen for the 2005-2006 school year are located in the main hallway in a glass shelf.   The books for months forthcoming remain wrapped until they are unveiled. 

Students read the  letter and the book and talk about it.  Many students write responses making text to self, text to text, or text to world connections.  Responses are also received regarding the illustrations.  Within Alice Carlson, you may find the Book of the Month responses outside of classrooms.  Now, everyone can respond online and talk about the authors and the stories.  This further extends our learning community and provides a place where books and reading are shared experiences.

    What would you rate the book on a scale from 1 to 10 with 10 being best?

    What didn't you like about the book?

    Would you recommend the book to others? What grades do you think would enjoy it?

    How would you categorize the book? Was it fiction, non-fiction, fantasy, historical fiction, biography or autobiography?

    If you've read more than one monthly book featured, compare them and tell us which one you liked best and why.

    Do you know anything interesting about the author or additional detail about how or why the book was written?

    Have you read any other books by the same author or do you know of any other books written by the author? If you have read others, how did the monthly feature book compare?

    Did you learn anything? What about new words?

    Without the illustrations, would the book have been enjoyable? Why or why not?

     

    Steps to Leaving a Comment

  3. After doing so, you will see a box that asks for your name, email and URL. Just enter your FIRST name and leave both Email and URL blank.
  4. Important - You will also see a Comments area. Here is where you want to write a very good description! Be sure to tell us:


    a. what book you read

    b. your comments

    c. conclude with your FIRST name again & your grade.
